Cleaning my bike for shipping to Darwin

I‘m in Dili for a weak now, been visiting multiple shipping agencies to get quotes for shipping my bike to Darwin in Australia.

unfortunaltely, I did not find any other bikers to share a container, so I have to pay the full prize 🙁  I may do another post with all the costs of the shipping when I arrive in Australia.

To get the bike into australia, it has to be VERY clean! Fortunately I could clean my bike at the local Ford dealership „Entreposto“! I cleaned it for about three days, took apart half of the bike. Antonio and ‚his boys‘ helped me out with tools and the pressure washer!

Thank you so much Antonio and your team!!

If everything goes like planned, the ship will leave on Friday or Saturday and arrives two days later in Darwin. There it will be a big bureaucracy to get it out of customs and inspected…

I’m in Australia – without my bike!

I’m in Australia! But my bike is still on Bali in Indonesia!

The plan was to arrive in Australia at the beginning of December and traveling with my girlfriend for a about month.
But I missed this deadline greatly, I was at least one month too late. So I just stored my bike in Bali and took a plane to Australia!
No worries, I will fly back and continue the tour on my bike.

So far we visited Sydney and Adelaide with the Kangaroo Island.
Stay tuned for more 🙂

This part of the trip is marked on the map with a purple line!

Monsun on Java, Indonesia

the last three days it rained heavily and thoroughly. as a result, there are a lot of floodings and land slides. I had to do a lot of water crossings and detours to find my way through the south to the east of Java!

die letzten drei Tage hat es stark und ununterbrochen geregnet! viel ist überflutet und es gab viele Erdrutsche. ich musste ein paarmal umkehren und andere Routen suchen, um vom Süden weiter in den Osten zu kommen.

most asked questions

I get so many questions from the local people when I’m stopping somewhere on my bike.
Most of the time it’s at petrol stations, accommodations or at mini markets.

These are the most questions I get, ordered by frequency:

  1. where are you from?
  2. how old are you? (yes, in Asia this is mostly the second question!)
  3. where are you going?
  4. photo/selfie?
  5. are you traveling alone?
  6. what’s your name?

and in Indonesia, I get these two new questions almost daily:

  • are you single?
  • do you want to marry my sister?

Crossing the Equator!

Yesterday I crossed the Equator on Sumatra in Indonesia!
it didn’t hurt at all! 🙂
There’s a stone, a monument and a line on the ground. But the GPS showed the actual Equator 150m south of all this…

So now I’m in the southern hemisphere, summer is comming!

Melaka, Malaysia

sorry for the lack of updates!
In Kuala Lumpur, I’ve been trying to organize some parts for my bike, not as easy as expected… so I drove on and will return to KL when the package arrives.

I’m in Melaka now, south of Kuala Lumpur. Nice old town, it used to have a big harbour under the Portuguese and Dutch. but the English took over and pushed Singapore and Melaka has been forgotten.
