Mud and flat tyre!

I got stuck in mud! It was so sticky, the front wheel completely stopped spinning and I had to remove the front fender to drive on.

later that day I got a flat tyre! I have a repair kit and a spare tube, but  I somehow ripped a huge hole into the tyre itself! But luckily I made it to the next town.

So now I‘m in El Chaltén, waiting for a new tyre!

Chile

Sorry for the lack of updates (again)!

I already arrived in Santiago de Chile about three weeks ago now, after an 13 hour flight!
I arrived 1 hour earlier than I left! (13h flight, but -14h time difference!)
two days later I could get my bike at the cargo terminal. no problems at all, it was done in half a day.
taking the bike out of the warehouse in Santiago and through the customs was easy and about $200 USD.
In Australia it took me almost two weeks to get my bike legally onto the road!

I had a very good experience with Ivan from bikesabroad.com.au, who did the shipping (or rather flying). The bike was perfectly crated up by Procycles in Hornsby near Sydney, altough it came in a BMW box 🙂

right now I’m in Viña del Mar and taking some Spanish lessons!

worlds largest Virtual Solar System Drive

Near Coonabarabran in NSW, Australia there’s the largest Virtual Solar System Drive in the world!
It starts at the Siding Spring Observatory, which represents the sun. then you find all the other planets (including Pluto) along the roads in the relative distance to the ‘sun’.  the whole drive is about 200km long!

Great Alpine Road & Barry Way

the last two days I had a blast riding two of the best motorbike roads in Australia 🙂

The Great Alpine Road is less known than the Great Ocean Road, but much more fun! almost no traffic, good tharmac and nice views!
I think it’s even the highest sealed road in Australia at about 1800m.
the best part is between Bright and Omeo, but down to Bruthen is still pretty nice. there’s even a Mt Bernhard!

the day after I rode the Barry Way, which goes from the coast back up into the snowy mountains. it’s mostly gravel, but pretty good and beautyful scenery!
The road up to the Mount Kosciuszko was closed due to snow!

Tasmania

Finally some curvy roads here in Tasmania!

It’s cold and it rains pretty often, but I still camped as much as I could.

after 11 days on Tasmania I‘m taking the ferry back to Melbourne this evening.

40’000km on the road, 60’000km bike’s total!

Since leaving Switzerland, I’ve been riding 40’000km on my Honda Africa Twin CRF1000!
I hit the mark somewhere in Australia’s Outback, short of Top Springs.
One day later, my bike hit a total of 60’000km! And she is still going strong, no issues with the motor! But I fixed the front forks (fixed in Thailand, oil was leaking) and the wheel and steering bearings (fixed in Australia. not broken, but heavily weared out).
A complete service list of my bike is here.
